THREE AMIGOS RANCH - TULAROSA, NM

The Three Amigos Ranch is a desert ranch located in the Tularosa Basin a short distance from the Sacramento and White Mountains. The Three Amigos Ranch is located along the west side of US Highway 54 starting just north of Tularosa, and runs approximately 25 miles north to Oscuro, bounded on the west by the White Sands Missile Range, and on the east by the highway.

This ranch was part of the Hatchet Ranch owned by A. B. Fall, an influential New Mexico pioneer and politician. Fall is best known for his part in the infamous Teapot Dome Scandal. The ranch has several significant Native American sites. One is located at the northern end of the ranch at Phillips Spring and has several mortars bored into the rock above the spring. There are other sites along the Temporal drainage and where Three Rivers crosses the ranch.

The ranch is about 31,314 acres - almost 49 sections. This is comprised of about 4,360 deeded, 17,311 State lease and 9,643 BLM lease acres. Carrying capacity is rated at 207 head.

The Three Amigos Ranch receives a large amount of runoff water via several drainages that originate in the mountains. This beneficial water spreads out over a large portion of the ranch. The ranch also has 5 wells with pipeline, and one spring. Rainfall averages 10 inches per year, and snowfall 4 inches/year. Average annual temperature is 61 degrees.

Grasses include blue grama, sideoats grama, black grama, sacaton, tobosa and bush muhly. Woody plants include mesquite, creosote and tamarisk. Wildlife includes deer, antelope and oryx.

Other improvements include a hay shed and steel shipping pens at Three Rivers.
