THE BOULANGER HOUSE

A little bit of history and information about the Boulanger house. This home is situated southwest of the town Boulangler on 22 acres(mol) and was built for the town's founder and his wife, Isaac Walter & Grace(sharp) Boulanger. Home was built in 1918 and has 2592 sq ft. The home, somewhat colonial in architecture with huge white pillars and an upstairs gallery all around the house, has always been a showplace. What most do not know about this home, however, is that it was a sears, roebuck & co home. It resembles there modern home #102 with some changes. On the upstairs level, rather than having a window in front of house, there is instead a doorway, due to upstairs porch. They opted to have wrap-around porches on the two main levels of the house, creating the need for a taller house to allow for the overhang of the roof to cover the top porch, while at the same time creating a third story, an attic, which was large enough to hold dances in, and the Boulangers did. Home has a large dining room, large parlor and a large kitchen. Home has a basement that was dug by hand and they carried the dirt out by the bucket loads. Basement has both access from inside and outside. When the basement was completed, a big furnace was place there to heat the home, and the house now boasted four stories - three above ground and one below. Because the house was built at the time of the early automobile, it had one of the very first four-car garages ever built in the area. In addition to the house and garage, improvements on the property consisted of a large and very nice livery barn, situated along the main road a ways east of the garage and driveway. A large barn was also built behind the home, as were a bunkhouse and other various buildings. In 2000 the home was used as a bed and breakfast calling it the "Boulanger house". The barn was remodeled turning parts of it into sleeping rooms. Would make a great home with lots of room and a unique history thatís known. Live here as a family and enjoy life or turn it into a bed and breakfast again, or even a hunting and/or fishing lodge. A must see!
