The hotel began as a boarding house in 1870. Clyde Crissey bought it in 1926 and tore down everything but the kitchen. He rebuilt it with a large ballroom, a double-deck porch and nine rooms upstairs. The hotel also offered gas and food. As its reputation slid, it changed names; the Red Bat Cave, then Happy Trails Bar and Grill. But according to locals, the wild reputation was nothing new.
