SOCIETY HILL SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL HOME

A historical home, located in Society Hill, Darlington County, South Carolina. The Enoch Hanford House, locally known as Cedar Lawn is presently on the National Register of Historic Places. It is believed to have been built between 1800-1803.

This two-story house is of Georgian design. The roof is gabled and the one story veranda has a hip roof. It originally had 4 rooms; two up and two down with a wide hall between the rooms above and below. Later, there were four more rooms added - two upstairs and two down with the hall continuing between them.

The stairway was moved from the front of the hall to the back. The left wing was built in 1866. Many of the windows have the original glass panes. The old brick kitchen building was at one time attached to the main house but is now no longer attached and moved farther back. It has a trap door with a cellar.

A former slave cabin sits to the south side of the house in a wooded area and has been renovated. Home has formal dining room with original gas chandelier, breakfast room and mud room. The old kitchen is now the laundry room. And on the grounds is an 18x36 vinyl pool with brick surround and a pool house with full bath. You will also find on the grounds an old barn with a garage and an active chicken coop. There is a carriage house with a cellar with brick flooring and a "bee" building.

On the property are walnut trees, pecan trees, peaches and raspberries. Searching for a South Carolina Historical Home in Darlington County? Consider this beautiful property.
