Architect Jim Weiss is known in the La Crosse area for his designs of high-end homes. In 2005, this unique contemporary home (one of Jim's creations), was built. It is now for sale for less than its appraised value. Taking advantage of the ridge top setting, the many windows and tall vaulted ceiling allow for ample natural light and passive solar gain. Natural slate tile in the entryway adjoins the sycamore hardwood floor in the living and dining rooms. The centerpiece of the main level is the see-through two sided fireplace with views in both the living and dining rooms. The same slate found in the entryway covers the sides of the fireplace which is topped by a hand crafted copper mantel. The kitchen has plenty of cupboards and drawers with handcrafted wrought iron drawer pulls. The view from each room on the main floor goes for miles. There is a large wrap-around deck off the living/dining room area for grilling out and just soaking up the Mississippi Valley beauty. The master bedroom, also on the main level, is extremely spacious and includes a sitting area, sycamore hardwood floors, a walk-in-closet and a master bathroom. The floor of the master bathroom as well as the sides of the Asian soaking tub are covered with the same slate that covers the fireplace and entryway floor. Not in the mood for soaking, then step into the large 8' x 4' walk-in shower. The second floor loft with its bamboo flooring takes advantage of the high vaulted ceiling and serves the current owners as an office with plenty of natural light. The catwalk leading to the office runs the length of the living room. The lower level living area features two bedrooms with plenty of closet space and a recreational room all with bamboo flooring. There is also a large full bathroom. The utilities are on this level as well as access to the tuck under garage. This home has a whole house water filter system, and the septic and well are only five years old.
The approximately 30 x 30 workshop is completely loaded and ready for a new owner. Stick built about five years ago, it was constructed to be used as an industrial, architectural metal workshop. It is completely insulated and heated with propane. The outside walls have vinyl siding and the inside walls are covered with steel. This building is fireproof and up to insurance code. Within the workshop is an office area approximately 11' x 15' in size with storage space above. A wall unit provides both heat and air conditioning within the office where there is also a half bathroom. The workshop features five 220 volt outlets and plenty of 10 volt outlets at workbench level. There is both an air line and a high pressured gas line with five interior caps. The building has a 10' high garage door. Within the concrete slab floor is a two foot thick 9 x 6 floating slab. The floating slab once supported the workings of a 1.5 ton air hammer. Like the house, this workshop has a vaulted ceiling with windows high above allowing in natural light while providing privacy. There may be the potential of converting the vaulted ceiling area into a second story for additional living or office/storage space. What a value this property is! Now priced below appraised value.
