WATERFRONT HOME ON HISTORIC SITE OF OSCEOLA, MS

Two Ponds On The River just might be the paradise you've been looking for. The property offers nearly 4 acres of land, a 4,200 +/- square foot home with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, a separate apartment or private office, enclosed three car garage, a garden tub in the master bathroom, and frontage on the historic Pearl River. The home also offers vinyl siding, T1 internet service connection with five phone lines, two stocked ponds in the front yard, a circular driveway and a fishing pier that overlooks the River. If you like fishing, hunting, boating or just "loafing", then you'll love Two Ponds On The River. The old timers in the area say that at one time this property was the site of a town called Osceola, Mississippi, yet you won't find it on a map. Simpson County had one river town, Osceola, named for an Indian Chief and located on mile south of the present Rockport bridge. Its first store was opened in 1830, and Osceola became the head of boat navigation. It became the largest town in the county and was similar to early frontier towns of the west, with a half dozen saloons, where gamblers from far and near joined the steamboat roustabouts. It boasted the best race track in the county. Osceola received her death blow after the Civil War, because the trees were cut and felled into the Pearl River to prevent Federal gunboats from navigating up the river. Prior to the Civil War paddlewheel steamboats would dock just outside the back door of the home to unload whiskey and load bales of cotton for the trip back to New Orleans. Deer raise their fawns and drink from the two ponds on the property. Birds of every variety can be heard all around you. Sportsmen routinely land 30 pound catfish on the beautiful Pearl River, and I'm here to tell you it's some of the best catfish you'll ever put in your mouth. Oh, and if you've a mind to, you can just sit and relax on the new 1,300 square foot deck and enjoy the view. Maybe it's time you should experience Two Ponds On The River.
