Area Information
Founded in 1806 by settlers from Delaware, Maryland and Philadelphia, Wellsboro was incorporated in 1830 and became part of the General Borough Act of 1851 in September of that year. The town was named in honor of Mary Wells, wife of one of the original settlers, Benjamin Wister Morris.
We receive 33 inches of rain per year and 56 inches of snowfall. The number of days with any measurable precipitation is 134. On average, there are 177 sunny days annually. The July high is around 80 degrees. The January low is 14.
Wellsboro has it's own public school system and private education options as well. Mansfield University of Pennsylvania is a short 13 miles away with several other academies of higher learning within an hour's drive.
We are home to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Green Free Library, Wellsboro Johnston Airport and much more.
