The area that would become our town was originally a stagecoach stop in the midst of some hard country.
Ash Fork was truly born in 1882 when the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad established a siding along Ash Creek.

The earliest incarnation of Ash Fork was a wild town full of saloons and hotels. Things began to quiet down by the 1920s when Route 66 was laid through the area.

This added to the community's prosperity with the addition of many cafés, gas stations and motels built to serve travelers.

Route 66 has allowed the town to remain a tourist destination, serving as one of the anchors of the local economy.

The other anchors are cattle ranching and mining. Five stone yards quarry and ship flagstone across the nation, earning us the nickname of "The Flagstone Capital of the World."

There's more to the region's beauty than just the holes in the ground, though.
