The area around Ash Fork has
numerous sites of geological interest. These include Dante's Descent,
a 380 ft sinkhole, as well as the Cathedral Caverns just 10 miles
outside of town.
There's more to the region's beauty than just the holes in the ground,
though. Kaibab National Forest is located nearby and plays host to a
wide variety of impressive wildlife. You can find kaibab and mule
deer, elk, antelope, squirrels, coyote, turkey, porcupines, lizards,
mountain lion, bobcat, wolf and even black bear.
Many establishments built in the 1920s to serve travelers on Route 66
are still in existence today. You can visit old-fashioned restaurants
and motels as you explore Ash Fork's role in supporting this historic
roadway.
