Regional annual festivals include Nixa's Sucker Days (that's a fish) in May,
Sparta's Persimmon Days in November, Chadwick's Railroad Days in June, the Billings Fair in August, and the Clever Fourth of July celebration. Ozark observes State High School Rodeo championships in May; Village Days, Ozark Mountain Rendezvous and Celtic
Games in June; County Fair in July and Festival of Lights in November and December.
Major annual fundraisers for charity are Ozark Rodeo in July, Bull Rides in June and August, and the Ozarks Arts and Crafts Festival in the first weekend in October.
Educational needs are served by the highly rated Spokane and Galena
public school systems. Southwest Missouri State University is situated
within the Springfield metropolitan area, as are Drury University,
Evangel University and Ozarks Technical Community College. Other
institutes of higher education located within an easy drive include
Southwest Baptist University, Bryan College, Columbia College, Everest
College, Missouri State University and Vatterott College.
Hospitals and medical centers near Highlandville include St. Johns
Regional Health Center, Lakeland Regional Hospital and Cox Medical
