Recreation is bountiful in
the area, and Caledonia County's Boulder Beach offers
wonderful opportunities. Lake Willoughby, below Mount Pisgah
and Mount Hoar, provides trophy fishing. Crystal Lake is a
beautiful large lake for fishing and swimming. Lake Memphremagog
is an enormous lake running from Newport to beyond

the Canadian border. Kingdom Trails is Vermont's largest recreation trail
system. The 100-mile trail network offers mountain biking, trail running,
hiking, walking, nature study, cross-country skiing, backcountry skiing and
snowshoeing. If a more vigorous workout is more your style, then take a hike up
Burke Mountain. The view from the top is well worth it. Another great trek is
hiking Mt. Pisgah at Lake Willoughby. Renowned for its breathtaking views and
ski-racing heritage, Burke Mountain is the best-kept secret in the Northeast. It
is also home of the Burke Mountain Academy, the pre-eminent ski academy in the
country with 40 Olympians to its credit.
If you're a golfer you'll enjoy the St.
Johnsbury Country Club with 18 holes. Other facilities include the 18-hole
Orleans Country Club and Newport Country Club, and the Barton Golf Club and
Grandpa's Invitational.
