Miami Indian Chief Little Turtle. He eventually became a scout for General "Mad Anthony" Wayne, and was later killed by Potawatomi Indians allied with the British at the Fort Dearborn Massacre at the outbreak of the War of 1812.
     
Wells County was organized by an act of the Legislature in 1837. It is an agricultural county and its fertile soil is excellently adapted to the raising of a variety of crops.
  
The southern part of Wells County was located in gas and oil fields, which formerly were quite important.
    

Huntington County was formed in 1832. It was named for Samuel Huntington, who signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He was also president of the Continental Congress under the Articles of Confederation.
  
The Wells County Historical Museum is a restored Victorian home built in 1882. It houses more than 10,000 carefully catalogued items oriented toward Wells County history, culture, industry and genealogy.
