“When I first met with Lou (Francis), Carl (Hopkins) and Don
(Sprauge), I could sense that these guys were very sincere about the fact that
it was family. That it was very important to the leadership team to do
things that were making a difference for everybody,” Bobo said.

it flat pushed business to us, and there were times when it helped stabilize
our business.”
Baker added that leveraging all the United Country resources
and techniques leads to lasting success. “I think always dropping back to
the basics of running the United Country program has been a great assistance in
those times of uncertainty.”
The real estate and auction legend also emphasized the
importance of being fully invested. “If you follow the United Country
guidelines, you’ll do very, very well. As I look back over my career, I’ve had
some times when I went outside the boundaries, and some of that was profitable,
but not long term… As I always say, you’ve got to represent the brand; you’ve
got to be fully engaged.”
For Bobo, tried-and-true tactics are still worth repeating.
“In tough markets, we didn’t stop marketing. We didn’t let up. We figured
direct mail pieces worked 20 years ago, so we started doing that again. Well, I’ve
had people walk in the office with that postcard from 20 years ago in their
hand.”
