Over the past 50 years, the Clarksburg AVA has become an internationally recognized wine grape growing region within California. Within this region there are a few areas that are uniquely capable of producing extraordinary yields and excellent fruit. Merritt Island is one of these areas. This vineyard occupies 234 gross acres of Merritt Island. It was developed over a ten year period to six. Grapes are sold under long terms contracts to three wineries. It is located approximately 10 miles southwest of Clarksburg, contiguous with Elk Slough and road 143. Easy access is provided by heading south form Clarksburg on South River Road and then west on Road 143. The property has a pre 1914 riparian water right on the Sacramento River. Water is transported from the river to the vineyard via Elk Slough. Reclamation District 150 is responsible for maintenance of the levees, water deliveries and transport of excess water.
