Northfield was first settled in 1825 and incorporated in 1838. The population is about 181. The area is known for its lakes and outdoor recreation opportunities. This property offers easy access to miles of trails for snowmobile and 4 wheelers as well as access to the lake for your fishing and canoe pleasure. As a part of the AOS 96 school system, Northfield students have their choice of several elementary and high schools in the area.
Within about a half hours drive you will come to Machias for grocery shopping and your other needs. There are several building supply companies, a hardware store and other basic needs... gift shops, area restaurants, the University, and the hospital.
Public beaches at Roque Bluffs state park offer both a freshwater pond and the long sand beach for enjoyment. Jasper Beach in Machiasport is another popular destination in the area, along with a visit to Fort O'Brian where the capture of the Margaretta happened during the first battle of the American Revolution.
