It sits at an elevation of 2,169 feet (661 m) and has a post office with the ZIP code 76841.

Menard County spans 902 square miles of rolling terrain on the Edwards Plateau, with elevations ranging from 1,700 to 2,400 feet above sea level. The area features dark, loamy soils that are alkaline, supporting vegetation such as live oak, juniper, mesquite, and various grasses. It lies entirely within the Colorado River basin and is predominantly drained by the San Saba River, which flows from west to east across the county. The region is rich in wildlife, including deer (including exotic breeds that have moved into the area from neighboring hunting ranches), turkey, javelina, squirrels, coyotes, bobcats, beavers, opossums, badgers, foxes, raccoons, skunks, and a wide variety of birds, fish, and reptiles. Mineral resources in the county include dolomite, oil, and gas. The climate is subtropical, with an average minimum temperature of 32°F in January and an average high of 97°F in July. The growing season averages 220 days per year, with annual rainfall approximately 22 inches.
